In order for your iDevice to communicate with your Computer, drivers are needed and this is usually installed when you install the iTunes software on your Windows PC. But what if you would like to install only the drivers without having to install the iTunes software? On this post, we are going to show you two different ways of installing the iTunes or iOS drivers on your Windows PC without installing the software.
What is iTunes?
iTunes is a media player, media library, Internet radio broadcaster, and mobile device management application developed by Apple Inc. It was announced on January 9, 2001. It is used to play, download, and organize digital multimedia files, including music and video, on personal computers running the macOS and Windows operating systems. Content must be purchased through the iTunes Store, whereas iTunes is the software letting users manage their purchases.
The original and main focus of iTunes is music, with a library offering organization, collection, and storage of users' music collections. It can be used to rip songs from CDs, as well as play content with the use of dynamic, smart playlists. Options for sound optimizations exist, as well as ways to wirelessly share the iTunes library. In 2005, Apple expanded on the core features with video support, later also adding podcasts, e-books, and a section for managing mobile apps for Apple's iOS operating system, the last of which it discontinued in 2017. Installing iTunes drivers without installing the iTunes software
As mentioned above, there are different ways of installing the iTunes drivers on your Windows computer without having to install the iTunes software. Below, we will elucidate two possibilities.
Installing iTunes drivers using 3uTools
3uTools is an-all-in-one Windows-based application designed to work with any iOS device. The tool happens to be one of the best data management tools for iDevices currently and is very easy to use. Its installation will require you have either iTunes software installed or the drivers.
The 3uTools thus gives you the possibility of either installing iTunes or iTunes drivers whenever you try installing it without the iTunes software already running on your computer. So, since we want to install only the drivers, all we need to do is;
- Download 3uTools Setup.
- Execute the Setup and it will prompt you to install either iTunes or the drivers. Click on install iTunes drivers.
- 3uTools will now download and install all necessary drivers(You need to be connected to the internet).
Installing iTunes drivers by extracting the iTunes software
Since installing the iTunes software automatically installs the iTunes drivers, it is possible to extract the setup and install only the drivers. To do this, we will be needing a software which can extract cap files like 7zip. Below are the simple steps to follow;
- Download and install 7zip on your computer if you do not have it already installed.
- Now, download iTunes on your computer.
- Next, right-click and extract with 7zip.
- After extracting, you should see the iTunes folder. Open it and locate the following Windows Installer package files if you are installing the 32bits version;
- AppleApplicationSupport.msi
- AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi
- Conversely, if your Windows OS is X64, then after downloading and extracting iTunes for Windows 64bits, locate these two MSI files;
- AppleMobileDeviceSupport6464.msi
- AppleApplicationSupport64.msi
- Those two packages represent the iTunes drivers which are been installed when you install iTunes.
- Install the two driver files for your respective Windows(32bit or 64bits)
- After that, your iDevice will be detected by your computer.
Conclusion
We believe after following this guide, you should be able to use other iOS management tools on your Windows PC without having to install the iTunes software just so you could have the drivers.
As such, using tools like Pangu which will normally request for iTunes will function without it.
